About The Reading Strategist

Founder’s Vision

Literacy is the foundation of opportunity.

Yet across the United States, reading proficiency remains alarmingly low.

National data continues to show that a significant percentage of students are not reading at grade level — and those gaps widen for students with learning differences, language-based challenges, and limited access to structured support.

This is not a student failure. It is a systems challenge.

The Reading Strategist was founded on the belief that strong literacy outcomes require more than good intentions. They require:

  • Structured, evidence-based reading instruction

  • Explicit executive functioning strategy

  • Data-informed assessment

  • Family partnership

  • Thoughtful integration of technology

  • And a deep understanding of how the brain learns

Reading and executive functioning are inseparable. Students must decode and comprehend — but they must also plan, organize, sustain attention, monitor understanding, and regulate effort.

When we strengthen both literacy and executive functioning, we do more than improve test scores. We build independence, confidence, and long-term success.

The goal is not simply to teach students how to read.

The goal is to equip them with the cognitive tools to thrive.

Our Story

The Reading Strategist began with a simple belief: every person deserves the chance to discover their potential through reading.

Our founder, Sarah Anderson, didn’t start her career in education. With a background in history and law, she developed a deep appreciation for language, analysis, and the power of clear communication. That path eventually led her to the classroom when her children were little, where she saw firsthand how many capable students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they haven’t yet been given the right strategies. At the same time, all of her children were diagnosed with ADHD, and one in particular, with a communication disability and dyslexia.

After years of working directly with students from 6 to 18, particularly during the COVID aftermath, where the executive functioning strategies have now become a need,  Sarah created The Reading Strategist to provide targeted, research-based instruction and practical support that builds both skill and confidence.

To bring that vision online and make resources more accessible, she partnered with technology lead Chuck Salvo, a veteran software consultant with more than three decades of experience building digital solutions. Together, they combined educational expertise with technical innovation to create a platform designed to support students, families, and educators alike.

The result is The Reading Strategist: where literacy meets strategy.
